The Sudan Liberation Movement-led by Abdel Wahid al-Nur (SLM-AW) declared a three-month unilateral cessation of hostilities to allow humanitarian access to civilians in landslide-affected areas in Jebel Marra.
Torrential rains and landslides killed at least 21 people in Sampali area in eastern Jebel Marra on 7 September. However, the Sudanese authorities and UNAMID were not able to reach the rebel-controlled area due to the security situation there.

Five Islamic State members were killed in a joint operation, west of Anbar, the Iraqi Interior Minister said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the ministry’s Security Media Center, said “the Jazeera Operations Command, in collaboration with the U.S.-led Coalition troops, managed to kill 15 militants inside a cave, northeast of Akashat region.”

Congolese troops on Sunday were facing an offensive by DR Congo rebels in the eastern province of South Kivu, military and civilian sources said.
The sources said the troops were up against a disparate coalition of Yakutumba rebels loyal to a former army general opposed to President Joseph Kabila as well as Malaika (”angel”) allies.

Taliban attacks across two western Afghan provinces have left at least 12 Afghan police officers dead, officials say.
In the province of Farah, provincial council member Khair Mohammad Noorzai said at least seven Afghan police officers were killed after militants attacked a check post early on September 17.
