At least six militants affiliated with the Haqqani network have been killed and seven others injured in eastern Paktia province, said a statement released by the provincial administration on Friday.

The security forces, according to the statement, launched cleanup operations in Gardisirai district of the province on Thursday and the government forces have also arrested seven suspected militants with the Haqqani network, a military wing of Taliban operating in the capital city Kabul and eastern provinces.

Five Taliban terrorists were killed in an operation by Afghan Special Forces in the country’s northern province of Faryab, the provincial government said on Friday.

The anti-terrorist operation was carried out in the Dara-e-Shakh area of Gurziwan district in the wee hours of Friday. Two Taliban hideouts were destroyed, reported Xinhua.

Indian troops fought a gun battle with Kashmir rebels Tuesday after a car bomb attack and other clashes left four soldiers and three militants dead in 24 hours, military officials said.

A soldier and two suspected rebels were killed in the latest shootout in the Anantnag area of India-administered Kashmir, army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said in a statement.

More than 70 armed insurgents have been killed in Afghanistan’s southern region over the past 24 hours, as government forces have increased pressure on the Taliban in Kandahar and the neighbouring provinces, Xinhua news agengy reported on Sunday quoting an army statement.

Units of the national army in the latest crackdown on the Taliban have killed three insurgents in Khakriz district of the southern Kandahar province early on Sunday, said a statement of 205 Atal Corps released here.
