Indian security forces have killed four rebel fighters during a gun battle in Indian-administered Kashmir with two of the dead former police officers who had defected.
The firefight on Friday took place in Pulwama district, where India intensified security operations after a suicide attack killed 42 paramilitary troops in February.
At least seven people have been killed in an artillery attack in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, the media reported on Wednesday.
The incident comes as the fighting between the Arakan Army and Myanmar’s military has been escalating since last week in Minbya Township, east of Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine State.
Two Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants were killed in a gunfight with security forces in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district on Tuesday. The identities of the slain militants are yet to be ascertained.
“We have retrieved the bodies and recovered arms and ammunition from them. We are trying to ascertain their identities,” said a senior police officer in Anantnag.
At least 22 militants, including two Taliban commanders, and three police officers were killed in separate clashes in Afghanistan, authorities said on Sunday.
Fifteen militants, including the two commanders, were killed as security forces targeted Taliban hideouts in Khakriz district of Kandahar province since Saturday, reports Xinhua news agency.
Philippine security forces killed at least five suspected communist guerrillas in two clashes in the southern Mindanao region during the weekend, the military said Tuesday.
A group of 20 soldiers on foot patrol on Sunday in the town of Carmen in Surigao del Sur province came upon 10 men believed to be New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas, who engaged the troops in a gunbattle for several minutes, said Capt. Francisco Garello, the local army spokesman.
