Syria: Idlib air strike kills 33 Turkish troops

At least 33 Turkish soldiers have been killed in an air strike by “[Syian] regime forces” in north-western Syria, according to a Turkish official.

More were injured in the serious escalation of the conflict between Turkish and Russian-backed Syrian forces. It is believed the deaths and injuries followed a precision strike on a two-storey building in the village of Balioun.

Libya: Haftar militias target Mitiga airport in the capital Tripoli

Militias loyal to Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar targeted Mitiga International Airport in the capital Tripoli on Thursday.

In a statement, the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) said Mitiga Airport – open to civilian use – was hit by Grad missiles.

Yemen: War is escalating again

After five months of deescalation, the war in Yemen is heading back in the wrong direction. Fighting is escalating on the ground.

The Houthi rebels have resumed missile attacks on Saudi Arabia and the Saudis have resumed air strikes on Sana’a.

Burma-Myanmar: Army attacks against Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) soldiers displaces 300 villagers as Suu Kyi tours Karen State

Fighting between Burma Army and Karen soldiers in northern Karen State forced hundreds of villagers from their home into jungle hideouts while the State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi is touring Karen State.

Ceasefire violations by Burma Army had caused tensions with Karen National Liberation Army soldiers in its 5th Brigade area in Mutraw [Papun] district in the northern Karen State. As many as 300 villagers were driven from their homes by Burma Army shelling. A local Karen National Union leader estimated another 2,000 more villagers are on the brink of running to escape the fighting.

Niger: More than 100 terrorists killed during a military operation

French and African forces announced that more than 100 “terrorists” were killed during a recent operation that also resulted in the seizure of bomb-making equipment.

Niger’s defense ministry said in a statement last week that “120 terrorists have been neutralized” during the operation that took place in the country’s Tillaberi region, which borders Burkina Faso and Mali and has experienced multiple attacks by jihadist groups over the past few years.
