Somalia: Al-Shabaab terrorists kill 24 African Union troops

Al-Shabaab terrorists ambushed Somali and African Union, AU troops today killing 24 of them. Some of the peacekeepers killed were Uganda troops, said Uganda’s defence ministry.

The ministry said its soldiers were part of the AMISOM convoy and an unspecified number of its soldiers had been killed.

Yemen: Army launches huge offensive on southern Saudi military sites

The Yemen Army backed by Houthis rebels and the Popular Committees (PC) carried out on Friday, July 28, 2017, their largest surprise offensive ever that has led to the control of a Saudi military camp and three more sites deep inside the southern Jazan region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Military sources have confirmed that Yemen’s army and the PC carried out large-scale military operations in Jizan, pointing out that the military operations targeted Al Jabri Camp, in addition to the al-Faridha, al-Malhamah and al-Ghawiya military sites.

Nigeria: Boko Haram militants kill dozens of people in northeast

Dozens of people were killed in a Boko Haram attack on an oil exploration team in northeast Nigeria earlier this week, military, medical and humanitarian sources told AFP.

“The death toll keeps mounting,” said one source involved in dealing with the aftermath of Tuesday’s attack near Magumeri, adding: “Now we have more than 50 and … more bodies are coming in.”

Mali: Dozens killed in clashes between Coordination of Movements of Azawad (CMA) and Gatia group before UN helicopter crash

A group of former separatist rebels in Mali killed “dozens” of members of a pro-government armed group before a UN helicopter monitoring the fighting crashed in the country’s north, sources told AFP Thursday.

The UN has confirmed two German crew members belonging to its MINUSMA peacekeeping mission were killed while observing the area near the city of Gao following the clashes.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Mai-Mai Sheka wanted warlord surrenders to U.N. forces

One of Democratic Republic of Congo’s most notorious warlords, Ntabo Ntaberi Sheka, wanted for alleged crimes against humanity, surrendered to U.N. peacekeepers on Wednesday, the U.N. mission in Congo (MONUSCO) said.

Sheka’s militia, Mai-Mai Sheka, is one of a patchwork of armed groups in eastern Congo regularly accused by the United Nations and rights groups of using rape as a weapon of war.
