Nigeria: Dozens of people killed in 2 suicide bomb attacks

Suicide bombers have killed dozens of people at a mosque and a market in north-east Nigeria, in a twin attack bearing the hallmarks of Islamist insurgents Boko Haram.

The blasts happened at about 1:20pm (1220 GMT) in Mubi, a city 125 miles (200km) from the Adamawa state capital, Yola.

Afghanistan: Twin Islamic State (IS) bombings kill 25 people including 9 reporters

Two Islamic State suicide bombers struck in Afghanistan’s capital on Monday, killing 25 people, including nine journalists who had rushed to the scene of the first attack, in the deadliest assault on reporters since the fall of the Taliban in 2001.

An Agence France-Presse photographer, a cameraman for the local Tolo TV station and several reporters for the Afghan branch of Radio Free Europe were among the fatalities, police said. At least 45 people were wounded in the attacks, according to Kabul police spokesman Hashmat Stanekzai, who said four police were among those killed.

Burma-Myanmar: Kachin Independence Army (KIA) rebels and miltary clashes in Myanmar force thousands of people to flee

Fighting in northern Myanmar between government forces and the rebel Kachin Independence Army, or KIA, has forced more than 4,000 people to flee their homes.

Col Naw Bu, a KIA spokesman, said the fighting will become “more intense” because the army is sending more troops to the area.

Mali: Suspected jihadists kill 40 Tuaregs in 2 attacks in north Mali

Suspected jihadists killed 40 Tuaregs, mostly young men, in two attacks in northern Mali’s Menaka region, which the local governor said seemed calculated to spark an ethnic conflict between Tuareg and Fulani herders.

Menaka governor Daouda Maiga told Reuters by telephone that the attacks happened in the remote desert villages of Awakassa on Friday and in Anderanboucane, a day earlier.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab suicide bomber kills 6 people in Galkayo

At least six people, including senior Military Commanders, were killed and 8 others wounded in a deadly suicide attack, in central Somalia on Saturday morning, Garowe Online reports.

A witness confirmed to Garowe Online that a suicide bomber approached soldiers at a busy restaurant and detonated explosives strapped to his waist in northern Galkayo, the regional capital of Mudug province.
