French and Malian troops killed about 30 Islamist insurgents during a gunbattle in a region near the border with Niger, where Islamic State are known to be active, the French army said on Thursday.
West Africa’s arid Sahel region has seen a rise in violence by militant groups, some with links to al-Qaeda and Islamic State, that is drawing an increasingly aggressive response from countries including France and the United States.

Fresh clashes erupted on Wednesday night between fighters from Derna Shura Council and Khalif Haftar-loyal Omar Mukhtar Operations Room in eastern LIbya.
Sources from the Shura Council said they conducted a surprise attack on Aldahar Alhamar in southern Derna Andy killed two Operarion Dignity militia fighters.

The clashes took place between the two terrorist groups in vicinity of Chaparhar district of the province.

An Indonesian soldier was shot dead and two separatist rebels killed in clashes with security forces near the giant Grasberg copper mine in Papua operated by Freeport McMoRan Inc, an Indonesian military spokesman said on Tuesday.
A separatist group, however, said that only one of its members had died and that dozens of Indonesian troops were killed in clashes that began on Sunday.

The African Union peacekeeping mission forces in Somalia (AMISOM) have killed at least 30 al-Shabaab fighters after militants attacked an AU base in the town of Bula Marer in the southern Lower Shabelle region, APA reports quoting ANadolu Agency.
The special representative of the chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia, Francisco Caetano Madeira, said in statement that AMISOM troops had fought off and successfully pushed back al-Shabaab militants Sunday.
