Burma-Myanmar: Kachin Independence Army (KIA) warns civilians fighting with Myanmar military could erupt anytime

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) warned civilians in northern Shan State’s Kutkai this week that clashes could erupt anytime in the area between the ethnic armed group and the Myanmar military, or Tatmadaw.

Since June 1, the Myanmar military and the KIA have clashed violently in Kutkai five times. The township has also seen clashes between the Myanmar military and a KIA ally, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).

Turkey: Turkey accused of chemical attack on refugee camp in Iraqi Kurdistan

Turkey was accused today of using chemical weapons in Monday’s bombing of Maxmur refugee camp in Iraqi Kurdistan, amid calls for an international investigation.

Some 80 other sites were also targeted, including Sengal refugee camp and alleged Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) positions in the Qandil mountains.

North Korea: North Korea threatens to send troops into the demilitarized zone

The Kim Jong Un regime is threatening to send troops into the demilitarized zone that separates North Korea and South Korea after demolishing the building that served as a diplomatic mission between the rivals. Over the past week, Pyongyang has vented fury about North Korean defectors living in the South who have been flying anti-government leaflets back over the border.

The de-facto embassy building was officially known as the Inter-Korean Liaison Office. It was only established in 2018, standing just north of the heavily-militarized border in the city of Kaesong.

India: 20 Indian soldiers killed in clashes with China troops in Galwan Valley in Kashmir

At least 20 Indian Army soldiers have died in clashes with the Chinese forces over Galwan Valley, a disputed region north of Kashmir claimed by both Beijing and New Delhi. Beijing has not confirmed any reports of its casualties.

The Indian Army initially confirmed the death of one officer and two soldiers, but issued an official statement on Tuesday evening adding that the seventeen soldiers who had been critically injured were “exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the high altitude terrain” and succumbed to their wounds.

Burma-Myanmar: Arakan Army (AA) blamed for attack on border police

Police officers were injured in a raid by the Arakan Army (AA) on Done Pike border guard outpost in Rakhine State’s Rathedaung Township, according to Myanmar’s military spokesman Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun.

“The AA attacked the Done Pike border outpost at around 5.30 am this morning. They retreated after attacking for around 15 minutes. Some police officers were injured in the attack,” Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun told The Irrawaddy on Saturday.
