Ukraine: 7 Ukrainian troops killed in new clashes with Russia-backed rebels

At least seven Ukrainian troops have been killed in an apparent uptick in fighting in eastern Ukraine, government officials said on Monday.

An armed conflict between government troops and separatist rebels has killed more than 9,600 since it began in 2014, according to the UN Human Rights Office. A January ceasefire had until recently helped to limit the fighting to sporadic shootouts.

South Sudan: Government forces and SPLM-IO rebels clashed in Upper Nile state

The SPLM-IO Monday said its fighters have successfully repulsed an attack by the government forces on their bases in and around Kuek, Upper Nile State.

In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune the rebel spokesperson William Gatjiath Deng claimed that the government forces, backed by ” Sudanese rebels of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and SPLM-North” came from Gabat, Khor and Mustagbal areas.

Philippines: 15 militants of Abu Sayyaf and Maute groups killed in airstrikes in Lanao

Intense air strikes by the military using new FA-50 fighter jets hit several positions of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf and Maute groups in Butig, Lanao del Sur, killing at least 15 militants, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Año said on Sunday.

Military officials are verifying a report that among those killed was an Indonesian terrorist identified as Mohisen.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab militants attack Kenyan military base in Somalia

A suicide bomber from the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab rammed a vehicle into a Kenyan military base in southern Somalia on Friday morning, setting off a ferocious firefight that killed dozens of people.

Representatives of the Shabab and of the Kenyan Defense Ministry each claimed that they had inflicted heavy losses on the other side. It was not possible to confirm immediately whether either side’s account was accurate.

Syria: Clashes break out between Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham group in Idlib

Clashes broke out on Friday between Syrian rebel groups and al-Qaeda-splinter group of Fateh al-Sham in Syria’s northwestern Idlib Governorate.

Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, previously known as Nusra Front, clashed with foreign-backed rebel factions in the countryside of Idlib –where they both used to share power after the expulsion of Syrian regime’s forces nearly two years ago.
