Nigeria: Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) militant group threatens to declare Niger Delta Republic on October 1 2016
The new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), on Thursday threatened again to declare self actualisation for the Niger Delta region and declare a republic in the region come October 1.
The threat is the second in the last two months with the attempt by a militant group known as Adaka Boro Avengers (ABA) aborted by the military and pressure from prominent Niger Deltans including former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The NDA in a statement it issued via email and signed by its spokesman, Brig. Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, warned that if the country under President Muhammadu Buhari did not retrace it’s step, they will declare a republic for the region.
The statement reads in part, “The October 1st, declaration of independence is still sacrosanct, if the Nigeria government fails to retrace its step by restructuring this country.”
