Philippines: 2 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrender in Aurora province

Two members of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to the military troops on Wednesday, citing reasons of lack of mass-based support and resources from their organization.

Lt. Col. Reandrew Rubio, acting commanding officer of Army’s 91st Infantry “Sinagtala” Battalion (91IB), said the two insurgents who surrendered to his troops at the boundary of Aurora and Nueva Ecija provinces, belonged to the Komiteng Larangang Guerrilla (KLG) Sierra Madre.

Yemen: Yemeni army kills 15 Houthi militants in Al-Jawf province

The Yemeni army killed 15 Houthi militants during clashes in Al-Jawf province, state news agency SPA reported on Wednesday.

“The national army foiled an attack carried out by the militia in Al-Jaroub front of Al-Matoon district which resulted to the death of 15 militants and wounds in others,” a military source said.

Libya: Rival factions agree to turn truce into lasting cease-fire, UN envoy says

The U.N. envoy to Libya said Tuesday there was a “genuine will to start negotiating” between rival military factions as they planned to meet for the first time for talks in Geneva aimed at securing a lasting cease-fire.

However, Ghassan Salame told reporters that an arms embargo was being violated by both sides and that new mercenaries and arms were still arriving “by air and by sea” in Libya, where forces loyal to eastern-based putschist Gen. Khalifa Haftar have been trying to take the capital, Tripoli, from the U.N.-recognized government for the past 10 months.

Somalia: 8 soldiers killed in al-Shabaab attack in Qalimow

At least 18 people including eight Somali government soldiers and 10 al-Shabaab militants were killed, and more than 13 others wounded when fighters from al-Shabaab attacked Somali National Army and African Union peacekeeping mission troops bases in the middle Shabelle region on Sunday.

Hassan Ibrahim, a military official in the region, told Anadolu Agency over the phone that the main attack took place at AMISOM and SNA base in the vicinity of Qalimow in the region.

Turkey: Turkey launches strikes on Syria after 8 Turkish soldiers are killed

Turkey has launched ground and air attacks on Syrian troops after eight military personnel were shelled and killed in the north of the war-torn country, jeopardizing the Turkish leader President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s fragile security pact with Syria’s main ally, Russia.

“Those who test the determination of Turkey with such cowardly attacks will understand they are making a grave mistake,” Mr. Erdogan told Turkish television in Istanbul before flying out on a scheduled visit to Ukraine.
