Somalia: 5 al-Shabaab members killed in single U.S. airstrike

A March 10 U.S. airstrike killed five al-Shabaab targets in Somalia without harming any civilians, U.S. Africa Command reported.

The strike was carried out near Janaale, which is located about 75 kilometers (or approximately 47 miles) southwest of Mogadishu in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region, and was coordinated with Somalia’s federal government, the command said.

Libya: Haftar forces strike 2 schools in Tripoli

Military forces affiliate with Libyan Commander Khalifa Haftar carried out two separate strikes on two different schools in Tripoli, Arabi21 reported yesterday.

The two schools are located in the vicinity of Abu Salim municipality.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: At least 17 killed in clashes with Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in Beni

Four soldiers and at least 13 militia members were killed during clashes in eastern DR Congo, the army said on Saturday.

The two sides clashed in the Beni province of North Kivu bordering Uganda on Friday, said Lieutenant Anthony Mualushayi, spokesman for the army in the region.

Philippines: Clashes leave 14 militants and 4 soldiers dead in Maguindanao province

Philippine troops have killed at least 14 Muslim militants aligned with the Islamic State group in a weeklong offensive in a southern province that also left four soldiers dead, a regional military commander said Saturday.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said an unspecified number of militants, including gunmen belonging to the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, were wounded in clashes in the towns of Ampatuan and Datu Hoffer Ampatuan in Maguindanao province.
