Fighting between the Myanmar army and ethnic Rakhine rebels has escalated in the western state’s temple-studded town of Mrauk U, sources confirmed Wednesday (Apr 10), with reports of military jets streaking across the sky.
Riven by complex ethnic and religious divides, Rakhine state was the epicentre of a brutal military campaign in 2017 that forced some 740,000 Rohingya Muslims over the border into Bangladesh.
Five militants of the Islamic State (IS) group including commander Mawlawi Suliman have been killed in a drone attack against the group in Achin district of the eastern Nangarhar province, said a statement of the provincial government released here Wednesday.

At least 36 Taliban militants were killed or wounded during the operations of the Afghan Special Forces and airstrike which were conducted in Helmand and Paktika provinces in past 24 hours.
According to informed military sources, the Afghan Special Forces conducted a ground assault in Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province in the past 24 hours killing 30 Taliban fighters and wounding 4 others.
