Burmese army’s 63rd Light Infantry Battalion troops on Friday attacked KIA 18th Battalion’s Nbu Kawng post at around 9 am, reported a KIA frontline source. Nbu Kawng post is located between Nam San Yang and Ban Dawng, just a few miles from KIA headquarters Laiza.

KIA source said Burmese army’s artillery unit pounded the KIA post with heavy artillery for about an hour. A KIA officer said, “According to information we received in the past days, Burmese army has a plan to attack and clear all KIA posts located on western side of Myitkyina-Bhamo road”. More troops have arrived in Namsan Yang, Gangdau Yang, Galang Ja Pa, and Seng Mai Pa since April 7.

Eight more Abu Sayyaf extremists have been killed and a top militant commander has been wounded as Philippine troops pressed a major offensive in the country’s south following the killings of 18 soldiers in fierce fighting over the weekend, the military said Monday.

Regional military spokesman Maj. Filemon Tan said four Abu Sayyaf gunmen who were wounded in battle Saturday later died and four other militants were killed in fresh fighting Sunday in the hilly outskirts of Tipo Tipo town on Basilan island.

A ruthless Abu Sayyaf commander, Puruji Indama, was seriously wounded in the head either by gun or artillery fire, Tan said. Indama has been linked to deadly bombings, kidnappings for ransom and beheadings of Filipino marines.

At least 18 soldiers were killed in fierce daylong fighting with Abu Sayyaf extremists in the southern Philippines on Saturday in the largest single-day government combat loss this year, officials said.

At least 52 other soldiers were wounded in the clashes with the Abu Sayyaf and its allied gunmen in the hinterlands bordering Tipo Tipo and Al-Barka towns on Basilan island, three military officials told The Associated Press. Four militants were killed in the clashes, they said.

At least twelve terrorists were killed and several others injured when security forces repulsed an attack on a check-post in Lower Kurram Agency’s Mangaro area near the Pak-Afghan border this morning.

Nearly fifty terrorists from Afghanistan sneaked into Pakistani territory around early morning and attacked the check-post with heavy weapons.
