New clashes flared between government troops and an armed ethnic group in northern Myanmar’s Shan state on Wednesday, the same day as a new civilian president was sworn into office, vowing to work towards peace and national reconciliation in the country.

Major Mai Aik Kyaw, spokesman of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), told RFA’s Myanmar Service that his forces engaged in fresh hostilities with government troops in the early morning at Khokat village in Mantong township.

Two Azerbaijani soldiers have been killed on the frontier with Armenia, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

The soldiers and an unspecified number of Armenian military personnel were killed as the Armenians tried to cross the border into Azerbaijan’s Qazax region on Sunday, the ministry said.

Fighting between Kachin Independence Army (KIA) troops and those from a government backed People’s Militia Force broke out in Kachin state’s Kampaiti last Tuesday March 22nd. The clash appears to have been triggered by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Third Regiment’s efforts to eradicate opium in the area.

A Pakistan Taliban splinter group claimed responsibility for the deadly suicide attack in Lahore that killed over 60 people and injured over 300 on Sunday.

“We claim responsibility for the attack on the Christians as they were celebrating their religious festival,” spokesman for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, Jamaat ul Ahrar, Eshansullah Ehsan said.

At least 59 people were killed and more than 200 injured when a suicide bomb ripped through the parking space of a crowded park in Lahore where Christians were celebrating Easter Sunday.

Dozens of ambulances were seen racing to the park, situated near the centre of the city with many women and children among the dead and wounded.
