In a meeting that took place on the 21stof October, members of the ONLF and the Ethiopian government (EPRDF) agreed to put an end to existing animosity after one of the longest running conflicts in Africa.

The two bodies agreed to respect one another, acknowledging the rights granted by the Ethiopian Constitution to all parties.

The Constitution Includes the provision for the right of constituent regions to hold a referendum on independence, something the ONLF has advocated for since Its inception. UNPO and the ONLF express satisfaction with the progress of negotiations but are still cautious in what the future entails for remaining reforms touted by the Ethiopian government, including full democratisation and multipartyism of the country.

The delegation from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) met on 21 October 2018 in Asmara, Eritrea.
