Nigeria: Nearly 100 killed in Boko Haram extremists attack a village and a church

Suspected Islamic extremists used explosives and heavy guns to attack a village and worshippers during a Christian church service in Nigeria’s northeast, killing at least 99 people and razing hundreds of homes, officials and witnesses said Monday.

The attacks in Borno and Adamawa states resulted in one of the highest death tolls in recent attacks by militants who are defying an 8-month old military state of emergency in three states in northern Nigeria designed to halt an Islamic uprising there.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab commander killed by missile in suspected drone attack, militants blame US

A member of Somali rebel group al-Shabaab was killed Sunday by a missile fired by a suspected drone, a rebel commander said, blaming the U.S. for the strike.

Abu Mohamed told The Associated Press that Sahal Iskudhuq, a militant commander who was believed to be close to al-Shabaab’s top leader, was killed when his car was hit by a missile in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region. The attack took place in a village called Hawai, he said.

Philippines: Army battles Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) rebels opposing peace deal with the main insurgent group

Government troops clashed with hardline Muslim rebels opposed to the newly concluded peace deal with a main insurgent group and wounded at least two militants in ongoing fighting.

Regional Army Spokesman Col. Dickson Hermoso said police backed by troops were on the way to arrest commanders of the rebel Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) when the clash erupted Monday in a vast marshland of southern Maguindanao province.

South Sudan: Rebels accuse government of ignoring cease-fire

South Sudanese rebels said that government forces had attacked several of their positions on Friday, a day after a cease-fire was signed that was supposed to bring an end to a monthlong conflict that shook the new country and displaced hundreds of thousands of its citizens.

Analysts cautioned that enforcing a cease-fire would be far more daunting than agreeing to one.

Afghanistan: 3 taliban militants killed and 23 others detained during military operations

At least three Taliban militants were killed and two others were injured during military operations by Afghan national security forces.

The interior ministry of Afghanistan following a statement, said the operations were conducted during the past 24 hours in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kandahar, Zabul, Ghazni and Helmand provinces of Afghanistan.
