Colombia: 23 dead in clashes between Colombian rebels

“We have found 23 dead” in a rural area of the northeastern Arauca department, deputy defense minister Jairo Garcia said.

Duque blamed his counterpart Nicolas Maduro for harboring Colombian rebels on the Venezuelan side of the countries’ 2,200-kilometer (1,400 mile) border.

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Scores die in clashes between army and rebel groups

Twelve civilians and 38 rebels have died in four days of fighting in northeast DR Congo, where the armed forces are carrying out a crackdown on militias.

The latest clashes in the violence-wracked Democratic Republic of Congo erupted between militia groups and the military in Ituri and North Kivu provinces.

Nigeria: 6 troops and 22 jihadists killed in Lake Chad fighting

Six soldiers and at least 22 jihadists have died in fighting in the Lake Chad region, a joint force deployed to the area said on Friday.

The force described the operation, conducted by air-supported troops from Niger and Nigeria, as a “success” and said it had benefitted from “decisive support by American partners.”

Yemen: Saudi-led coalition has struck Sanaa international airport

The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen on Monday said it carried out air strikes on what it called military targets at Yemen’s Sanaa international airport, from where drone strikes have been launched against Saudi targets.

The Yemeni capital is held by the Iran-aligned Houthi movement, which has been battling the coalition for seven years.

Wiro Nongganop says he commands a battalion of West Papua independence fighters, but he has no guns, only bows and arrows, and lives in exile in a bark hut, sometimes surviving on potato leaves.

Nongganop and a few members of his Muyu tribe fled their homeland in 2019, crossing the poorly marked Indonesian border for the relative safety of remote western Papua New Guinea.
