Syrian security forces have reached an agreement to end deadly clashes with a French-led militant faction in the northern province of Idlib, following days of tension around a camp housing foreign fighters.

The Internal Security Forces of Syria’s Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday that they had concluded a truce with the Ghuraba Battalion (”Battalion of Strangers”), a group of French jihadists led by Omar Omsen - also known as Omar Diaby - in the Al-Firdan camp near Harem, northern Idlib.

The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have targeted Sudan’s capital Khartoum and its main airport with drones, a day after the first passenger flight in two years landed in the city amid the civil war.

The government-aligned Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) intercepted the drones on Thursday, which caused no damage, a military official who spoke on condition of anonymity told The Associated Press news agency. The RSF and SAF did not immediately acknowledge the attack.

Myanmar’s ruling junta said Saturday that it had recaptured a town on a trade highway to China from an ethnic armed group in the country’s war-wracked north.

Following a 16-day operation, “on 16 October, Tatmadaw reoccupied Hsipaw completely,” the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper said, referring to the military by its Burmese name.

Madagascar’s new military ruler, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, said he will be sworn in as president on Friday and was open to talks with the African Union, after it suspended the country’s membership following a coup to oust President Andry Rajoelina.

Rajoelina, whom lawmakers impeached after he fled abroad during the weekend, has condemned the takeover and refused to step down despite youth-led Gen Z protests asking him to quit and widespread defections in the security forces.

Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban administration agreed to a 48-hour cease-fire starting at 6:00 p.m. local time Wednesday, Islamabad announced, following the outbreak of renewed fighting between the neighbors.

Both Pakistan and Afghanistan will make sincere efforts, through dialogue, to find a positive solution to the complex yet resolvable issue, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
