Armed clashes occurred overnight in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory. This was reported by High Commissioner Louis Le Franc, the representative of the Paris government, during a press conference.
“Large caliber weapons, hunting rifles, were used to shoot at the gendarmes,” said Le Franc, according to whom “there were no deaths”.
Defence Minister Kevin Andrews says Australian aircraft have dropped bombs on ISIS targets in Syria for the first time.
Mr Andrews confirmed the mission, that occurred two days ago, this morning.
At least 15 people have been killed in tribal fighting in the mountains of Papua New Guinea, reports say.
The clashes erupted in Kainantu town in Eastern Highlands province between the Agarabi and Kamano tribes.
Police said guns and knives were used in the fighting, and that a settlement was burned to the ground.
