A deadly attack on tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir has again moved India and Pakistan closer to war as the two rivals downgraded diplomatic and trade ties, closed the main border crossing and revoked visas for each other’s nationals.
Pakistan has denied it was behind Tuesday’s attack that killed 26 mostly Indian tourists at a scenic spot in the Himalayan region, where India claimed it restored a sense of calm despite a decadeslong rebellion.

Myanmar’s junta conducted 92 shelling attacks and airstrikes between March 28 to April 8, killing 72 people and injuring 91 amid the earthquake devastation, according to the Human Rights Ministry of the civilian National Unity Government (NUG).
The ministry on Wednesday said Sagaing and Mandalay regions, which were severely impacted by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake, reported the highest numbers of junta attacks, with 18 shelling attacks and airstrikes in each region.

An armed resistance group opposing Myanmar’s military government condemned the junta on Sunday for carrying out airstrikes on villages while the country is still reeling from an earthquake that has claimed around 1,700 lives.
As per Reuters, the Karen National Union, one of Myanmar’s oldest ethnic armies, issued a statement saying the junta “continues to launch airstrikes on civilian areas, even as the population endures immense suffering from the earthquake.”

In a significant breakthrough for security forces, three Maoists were gunned down in an encounter in the dense forests of Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district today. The operation was carried out as part of an ongoing anti-Naxal campaign in the region, where Maoist activities have been a persistent challenge for law enforcement agencies.
According to reports, a joint team comprising personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), the Special Task Force (STF), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched the operation based on intelligence inputs regarding Maoist movement along the Bijapur-Dantewada border. As the security forces advanced towards the identified location, they were met with heavy gunfire from the Maoists, prompting them to retaliate. The gun battle lasted for several hours before the security forces gained control of the area.

Myanmar’s military has recaptured some camps previously controlled by ethnic rebels in northeastern Shan state nearly eight months of fighting, sources familiar with the situation said Wednesday.
The junta that seized power in a February 2021 coup has been under major pressure from its insurgent enemies over the past year losing large areas of territory, military bases and major towns.
