Afghanistan: Taliban claim capturing key areas as clashes with Afghan forces still ongoing in Farah city
Armed clashes between the Afghan forces and the Taliban are still ongoing in the capital of western Farah province as 3pm Monday.
Gen. Raz Mohammad Oryakhel, the commander for 207th Zafar Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News that militants launched a coordinated attack on the capital of Farah on 2am last night and entered parts of the city on 5pm Monday morning.
He said the Taliban targeted Haidr Qali, Sayedabad and Yazdi areas of the provincial capital with suicide bombing, rockets and car bombing.
Oryakhel said Afghan forces equipped with advanced weaponry were fighting against the militants and were not in need of reinforcement.
“We started our attacks from many directions to eliminate the enemy and take the city out of the militants’ assault,” he said without going into details.
