Libya: Recent clashes in Tripoli kill 70 people

The death toll of the recent clashes in the western Libya’s Tripoli is 70, including members of the Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement, a military official said on Friday.

“The result of the clashes in the area of Warshaffana during the past few days has reached 70 people, including 15 members of the Justice and Equality Movement that was fighting with the militants,” Abdullah Al-Fak’hal, media official of Zintan’s Military Council, told Xinhua.

“The clashes have completely stopped. Security directorates, in cooperation with the Joint Operations Chamber, are securing the area to pursue any wanted persons who fled during the clashes,” Al-Fak’hal added.

“We have arrested dozens of criminals, including senior leaders who were planning to destabilize the security and stability of the capital Tripoli and neighboring cities, in cooperation with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Libya formed by supporters of the former Gaddafi regime.”
