Iraqi forces backed by the Iraqi and U.S.-led coalition aircraft on Wednesday carried out an anti-Islamic State (IS) operation in the provinces of Anbar and Salahudin, killing 12 extremist IS militants, the Iraqi military said.

A joint force from al-Jazira Operations Command and paramilitary tribal fighters conducted an operation to hunt down IS militants in areas located in northern Anbar province and the neighboring province of Salahudin, a statement by the media office of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) said.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels said early on Monday that air strikes killed five civilians from one family in the northwestern province of Omran, according to the group’s Al-Masirah TV.

The air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition targeted a mosque that the family went to at the time of the attack, the station said.

Yemeni security officials say shelling by Houthi rebels has killed at least 13 civilians including women and children in the provinces of Hodeida and Taiz.

The officials said Saturday the attacks killed at least 11 people, including six from one family, south of the Red Sea city of Hodeida in the past 24 hours.

Rebels shot down a Syrian warplane in the opposition stronghold of Idlib province on Wednesday as Russian-backed government forces closed in on a strategically important town.

The Syrian state news agency SANA said the warplane had been hit by an anti-aircraft missile fired by militants while on a mission “to destroy headquarters of the Nusra Front,” a jihadist group now known as Tahrir al-Sham. Tahrir al-Sham, the most powerful insurgent group in the area, said its fighters had shot down a Sukhoi 22 jet that had taken off from a Syrian air base in Homs province. It did not say how the jet had been brought down.

Turkish fighter jets neutralized three PKK terrorists in northern Iraq in an air operation, according to the country’s National Defense Ministry on Thursday.

“Three PKK terrorists were neutralized by air operations in Avasin-Basyan and Sinat-Haftanin regions in northern Iraq as part of Operation Claw,” the ministry said in a statement.
