The Turkish military killed 16 Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters in an operation backed by air power near the Iranian border and another six militants elsewhere in southeast Turkey, the armed forces said on Monday.

Six Turkish soldiers were killed on Friday in a clash with Kurdish militants in Turkish Kurdistan, the southeast of the country, while two more lost their lives when a military helicopter sent to the scene crashed, the army said.
The six troops were killed and eight others wounded in fighting with members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) near a military base in the Cukurca district of Hakkari province.

One soldier is dead, three others are in critical condition after stepping on a landmine. Ukraine’s military spokesperson also says there were about a dozen shellings overnight.

A car bomb on Tuesday struck a police vehicle that was carrying officers escorting seven recently detained Kurdish militants in the mainly-Kurdish city of Diyarbakir, killing three people and wounding 45 others, officials said.
No group had claimed responsibility for the attack in Diyarbakir’s Baglar neighborhood, but the state-run Anadolu Agency said it was carried out by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, as the bus was passing by.
