Burma-Myanmar: Army launches military operation against Shan State Army-South (SSA-South)

The Burma Army has been launching a military operation against the Shan State Army (SSA) ‘South’ in the Loi Ye mountain range, Namzang township since Monday, 30 July, according to SSA sources.

Since then at least 3 clashes have taken place between the attacking forces and the SSA’s Gawn Zerng Column.

Burma-Myanmar: 5 burmese troops killed by Kachin Independence Army (KIA) bomb attack

Five Burmese soldiers have been killed and several others were injured from a Kachin Independence Army (KIA) bomb attack in Bankawng Mu, on July 24. The village, which is located between Myitkyina and Bhamo (or Manmaw), is patrolled by both KIA and government forces.

According to a Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) officer in Laiza, KIA Battalion 24 used a bomb to attack Burmese Battalion 142 in Bankawng Mu.

Philippines: Clashes between army and Abu Sayyaf islamic militants leave 14 dead

Philippine elite troops backed by helicopter gunships have fought al-Qaeda-linked militants in the group’s stronghold on a southern island, in clashes that killed 14 people, the military said.

The soldiers battled Islamic extremists from the Abu Sayyaf group on the troubled island of Basilan, with the fighting leaving at least nine soldiers and five militants dead.

The group, which was founded in the 1990s with seed money from then al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, has been blamed for the worst terror attacks in Philippine history including deadly bombings and kidnappings for ransom.

Afghanistan: Residents in Laghman province start fight against talibans

Local residents in eastern Laghman province on Tuesday announced to step up fight against the Taliban militants at Alisheng and Dawlatshah districts in this province.

Chief of the local cultural youth association Zafar Abbas said local residents started fight against Taliban militants after 2 pm local time today and several villages were cleared off from militants presence during the campaign.
