Clashes between ethnic Kokang rebels and Myanmar’s military near the country’s northeastern border with China left around 50 government troops dead over the weekend, a member of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army said Monday, though state media claimed the losses were far fewer.

Lt. Col. Ta Po Kyaw, secretary of the TNLA—which is fighting to reclaim the special region of Kokang in Shan state alongside the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)—told RFA’s Myanmar Service his group had confronted army troops from four different divisions in Nanhkan and Hseni townships in recent days.

Local sources said over 100 civilians have been killed this week by Burmese army’s 33rd Light Infantry Division (LID) soldiers in Laukai. Ordinary civilians were being shot indiscriminately by Burmese soldiers during a three-day period of shooting rampage in the Laukai street on Feb 14-17.

Kokang Armed Group, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army’s (MNDAA) spokesman Htun Myat Linn said the youngest person being executed by Burmese army was as young as 11 years old and the oldest was over 80 years old.

Narinjara News has learnt that Arakan Army (AA) forces have been involved in clashes with the Burma Army in Laukkai Town and other areas of the Kokang Self-Administered Zone, in Northern Shan State.

A statement issued by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) on 10 February said that the Peng Jia Sheng led Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), the TNLA, the AA and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) had all been involved in fighting the Burma Army in the Laukkai area.

Provincial officials said a group of suicide bombers attacked a police station in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, killing at least 22 officers and wounding 18 others.

One attacker blew himself up at the gate of the headquarters in Pul-i-Alam, about 60 kilometers south of the capital, Kabul, provincial government spokesman Din Mohammad Darwesh said.

Fifteen militants were killed Sunday as security forces repelled a militant attack in Pakistan, the media said Sunday.

The militants attacked a security post in Kurram Agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, injuring a soldier, Dawn reported.
