Militants launched a gun and bomb assault in the center of the Indonesian capital on Thursday, killing at least six people, in an attack that followed a threat by Islamic State fighters to put the country in their “spotlight,” police said.
Media said six bombs went off and a Reuters witness saw police exchanging fire with gunmen. Several hours after the attacks began, the witness heard more gunfire and at least one more explosion.
Afghanistan security forces took control of Darqad district bordering Tajikistan on Sunday, an official said. “After days of clashes with the Taliban, the rule of law has been maintained,” Sanatullah Timor, provincial government spokesman, told Xinhua.
“The joint forces were working to find and defuse roadside bombs and landmines in the area,” Timor said. A total of 25 militants were killed and 20 others wounded during the cleanup operation that started on Friday night, the source said.
At least 30 terrorists were killed and several others were injured in military air strikes in Shawal Valley of North Waziristan Agency.
According to official sources, the strikes were carried out in the Datta Khel tehsil of North Waziristan, destroying at least six terrorists’ hideouts.

Myanmar’s army says it has fought skirmishes against a Buddhist insurgent group in impoverished Rakhine state, losing several soldiers to sniper attacks.
The military, known as the Tatmadaw, has clashed 15 times with Buddhist Arakan Army rebels since 28 December, when it “cleared the area, acting on intelligence that AA insurgents were preparing to invade”, the army-run Myawadi news agency said, according to the government-owned New Light of Myanmar.
North Korea has detonated what it claims to be a hydrogen bomb. Following the fourth nuclear test on Wednesday at its nuclear site, the North said in a statement that its nuclear program is only a defensive strategy against the United States. Citing a smaller-than-expected explosive yield, Seoul is suspicious of Pyongyang’s H-bomb claim.
