At least 24 Taliban militants have reportedly been killed in the latest infighting among the rival groups in western Herat province which ended late on Tuesday.

According to the local government officials, the incident took place in Pashtoon Zarghoon district after the supporters of Taliban Chief Mawlavi Haibatullah Akhundzada clashed with the dissident Taliban leader Mullah Rasool.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Jilani Farhad said they are aware regarding the latest infighting among the rival Taliban groups.

Troops from the Kachin Independence Army’s (KIA) Regiment 6 attacked a Burma Army camp in Bang Lum Bum Mountain, between Mongyar and Mongkoe in northern Shan State, at 7 pm on 19 June.

An official from KIA Regiment 6 who had returned to Mongkoe and did not want to be named spoke to K.N.G.

The Burma Army has seized two guns and a handheld transceiver from a Mon National Liberation Army (MNLA) base on Thursday afternoon in Kyaikmayaw Township, Mon State.

This was a surprise raid in what has been, over the last twenty years, a zone of largely quiet coexistence between the Burma Army and the non-state ethnic armed group.

Afghan and Pakistani forces clashed in an escalation of tensions between the neighbouring countries, killing at least three people and forcing the closure of the main border crossing, officials said Tuesday.

The fighting erupted along the Torkham border on Sunday night and continued erratically over the next two days, apparently after Afghan forces objected to the construction of a gate on the Pakistani side.

Islamist extremists on Monday (June 13) executed the second of three foreigners they took from a high-end resort in the strife-torn southern Philippine island group of Mindanao, amid a military rescue operation involving up to eight battalions.

The small, but brutal, Abu Sayyaf group carried out its threat to behead Mr Robert Hall, 51, a Canadian, at 3pm on Monday in Jolo island, Sulu province, some 1,000km south of the capital Manila, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported, citing a spokesman named Abu Raami.
