Special Forces from the Puntland “army” have successfully repulsed an aggressive attack waged by troops loyal to the breakaway region of Somaliland, officials said, during Wednesday’s nasty clashes in Sanaag region, in the north of Somalia, Garowe Online report.
Troops from secessionist Somaliland invaded parts of Sanaag region on Wednesday morning, which is controlled by Puntland, a Federal state of Somalia, precipitating a fierce battle between the two sides.
Militias loyal to Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar targeted Mitiga International Airport in the capital Tripoli on Thursday.
In a statement, the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) said Mitiga Airport – open to civilian use – was hit by Grad missiles.
French and African forces announced that more than 100 “terrorists” were killed during a recent operation that also resulted in the seizure of bomb-making equipment.

South Sudan’s former rebel leader Riek Machar said he has agreed to form a unity government with President Salva Kiir following a meeting at state buildings on Thursday. “We had a meeting with the president on the outstanding issues. We have agreed to form the government on 22 February,” Machar said. President Kiir confirmed the agreement.
South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011 but plunged into a civil war in 2013 when President Kiir sacked his then-deputy Machar, who went on to lead a rebel faction.
Libya’s internationally recognised government has said it is suspending its participation in ceasefire negotiations hosted by the United Nations in Geneva, hours after an attack by renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar’s forces on the capital’s port.
In a statement late on Tuesday, the presidential council of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) said it would respond firmly to the attack at the appropriate time.
