Somaliland’s Information Minister, Ahmed Yasin Sheikh Ali, on Tuesday accused Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of planning to deploy federal troops to Sanaag region, alleging an attempt to destabilize a peaceful area as Al-Shabaab militants make territorial gains elsewhere.
In a press conference, the minister claimed that President Mohamud is seeking to provoke conflict in northern Somalia in an effort to undermine Somaliland’s pursuit of international recognition, which he said is “drawing closer by the day.”
