Two bomb attacks in Yemen Thursday killed 47 protesters in the capital Sana’a and 19 troops at a checkpoint in the far south-east, state news agency Saba reported.
The attack in the capital targeted a protest held by the Houthi Shiite rebel movement, with Houthi officials saying several children were among the victims.
Saba, quoting health officials, put the toll in Sana’s at 47 dead and 75 injured.
The bomber blew himself up when he was stopped at a checkpoint at the perimeter of the capital’s Tahrir Square where the protest was taking place, Ali al-Quhum, a member of the movement’s politburo, told dpa.
