Israel: Israel deployed troops to Somaliland after recognition, source says

Israel deployed a small contingent of forces to Somaliland earlier this year, a senior Somali government official told Middle East Eye.

After becoming the first country to recognise the breakaway state of Somaliland as an independent nation in December, Israel appointed Michael Lotem as its first ambassador to Hargeisa in April.

Mali: Over 70 killed in attacks in Mali, al-Qaeda linked Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM) claims responsibility

At least 70 people have been killed in a fresh wave of jihadist attacks in central Mali over the past few days, according to local and security sources.

The assaults, claimed by the Al-Qaeda-linked Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM), included coordinated attacks on Friday following earlier raids on villages that left at least 30 dead on Wednesday.

An attack by armed rebels has killed at least 69 people in Ituri province in the conflict-torn northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to security officials.

For more than 30 years, the mineral-rich eastern DRC has been a battleground for various armed groups, vying for control of its many mines.

Nigeria: 3 soldiers injured in clash with Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) fighters

The Nigerian Army says three of its soldiers sustained gunshot injury on Wednesday in Enugu State when troops raided a hideout of suspected members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed militant wing Eastern Security Network (ESN).

In a statement on Friday night, the army said troops of Sector 1 of the Operation Udo Ka carried out the operation in collaboration with other security agencies in Imezi Owa, a community in Ezeagu Local Government Area, in the South-eastern state.

Cameroon: Ambazonia fighters kill soldiers and kidnap 2 civilians in fresh attacks

Armed Ambazonia separatists carried out a series of coordinated attacks late Wednesday, striking communities in both the West and Northwest regions of Cameroon, leaving soldiers dead, a civilian wounded, and two villagers abducted for ransom.

Panic swept through the village of Mbeve 2, in Galim, Bamboutos Department, after heavily armed separatist fighters stormed the locality under cover of darkness.
