Discord between two rebel groups in a rebel-controlled town in Chin state of western Myanmar has turned into fierce fighting, forcing thousands of residents, including Christians, to flee their homes.

Clashes between the Mara Defense Force (MDF) and Chinland Defense Force–Mara (CDF-Mara) intensified in Thantlang township since Aug. 3, local sources confirmed.

Six soldiers have been killed in a border skirmish between South Sudan and Uganda.

The Ugandan government claimed that South Sudanese soldiers were in Ugandan territory and refused to leave,
leading to the firefight. Reports indicate that five South Sudanese were killed, with one Ugandan also dying.

Thai and Cambodian soldiers have clashed along the border between their countries in a major escalation that left at least 14 people dead, mostly civilians. The two sides fired small arms, artillery and rockets, and Thailand also launched airstrikes.

Fighting took place in at least six areas on Thursday, according to Thai Defense Ministry spokesperson Surasant Kongsiri, a day after a land mine explosion along the border wounded five Thai soldiers and led Bangkok to withdraw its ambassador from Cambodia and expel Cambodia’s envoy to Thailand.

The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported on Thursday that Russia has lost over 1 million troops in Ukraine since the beginning of its full-scale invasion. Kyiv says the 1 million mark is not just a statistic, but “a symbol of resistance and resilience”.

Russia has lost more than 1 million troops in Ukraine since the beginning of its full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported on Thursday.

In Mali, Azawad rebels successfully launched an assault on a convoy of junta forces, capturing their equipment and weapons.

Mohamed Elmaulud Ramadane, spokesperson for the Azawad People’s Strategic Defense Program, confirmed that the entire convoy was neutralized and the battle had concluded.
