A top al-Qaeda militant who claimed responsibility for the Charlie Hebdo attack has been killed, according to the SITE intelligence group.
It quoted al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) as saying Nasser bin ali al Ansi was killed in a US strike in Yemen.
Fighter jets have attacked Sudan, reports the Arab media, which has suggested that Israel was involved in the strike. Israel declined to comment on the reports.
A Sudanese military source told the news site “Al arabi Al jaded” that its air defenses had operated against fighter jets that entered the Wadi Sidna neighborhood in Omdurman near Khartoum. Senior figures in the Sudanese military visited the site after the attack.
The fighting in Yemen has expanded from the major cities and ports to a border region with Saudi Arabia. Shelling by Shiite Houthi rebels in the area of Najran in northwestern Yemen has forced Saudi Arabia to suspend school and halt flights into the local airports, according to news reports.
This latest flashpoint comes nearly six weeks into a Saudi-led air campaign to stop the Houthis and their allies, security forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh, from taking control of Yemen.
The pro-Hadi forces and popular resistance fighters have taken control of Aden International Airport after fierce clashes with Houthi militants and forces loyal to the former regime, sources within the popular resistance said on Monday.
On Sunday, the Arab countries which have been conducting airstrikes against the Houthi militants for more than a month deployed ground troops into Aden to help regain the airport, they said.
Several hundred Yazidi captives have been killed in Iraq by Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists west of Mosul, Yazidi and Iraqi officials said Saturday, according to the BBC.
A statement from the Yazidi Progress Party said 300 captives were killed on Friday in the Tal Afar district near the city.
Iraqi Vice President Osama al-Nujaifi described the reported deaths as “horrific and barbaric”.
