Syria: Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters enter Islamic State (IS) held Deir al-Zour province

A US-backed alliance of Kurdish and Arab rebels has advanced into territory held by so-called Islamic State (IS) in Deir al-Zour province, eastern Syria.

Kurdish military sources said the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had captured some 15 villages from IS.

Iraq: Iraqi forces launch offensive to liberate western Mosul from Islamic State (IS)

US-backed Iraqi forces have launched a large-scale military operation to dislodge Islamic State (IS) militants from the western half of Mosul city, which has been in the hands of extremists since 2014.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the start of the operation on state TV, saying government forces were moving to “liberate the people of Mosul from Daesh oppression and terrorism forever”, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

Syria: Dozens killed as Tahrir al-Sham and Jund al-Aqsa jihadists clash in Idlib

Dozens of fighters have been killed in clashes between two jihadist factions in northern Syria, reports say.

The battles involved Tahrir al-Sham, formerly an al-Qaeda affiliate, and Jund al-Aqsa, regarded as close to so-called Islamic State (IS).

Syria: Kurdish female fighters clash with Turkey’s military in Amude town

Kurdish female fighters of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) on Monday clashed with Turkish Army forces near the town of Amude, in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah Governorate.

The clashes followed an attempt by the Turkish military troops to enter the Kurdish territory in northeastern Syria, where Turkey continues to build a concrete wall alongside the borderline.

Syria: Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels clash with Daesh terrorists inside al-Bab

Turkish-backed Syrian opposition fighters resumed a major offensive inside the Daesh-held city of al-Bab on Thursday, a day after they broke through Daesh defences in its remaining stronghold in Aleppo province.

The advance into al-Bab threatens an important Daesh stronghold, whose fall would push the terror group further back from the Turkish border region, from which they launched rocket attacks into neighbouring towns in Turkey.
