Two female terrorists who opened fire and dropped hand-made bombs at the entrance of the Riot Police Directorate in Bayrampaşa on Thursday morning, on Istanbul’s European side, have been identified as members of the DHKP-C terror organization.
The two women, identified as Çiğdem Yakşi and Berna Yılmaz, were reported to have carried out the attack at 9.45 a.m. [0745GMT], prompting the police to retaliate with fire.
According to jihadist social media accounts connected to al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), al Qaeda’s official branch in North Africa, French forces conducted two separate raids on al Qaeda figures in Mali in recent days. The attacks left one commander of AQIM and two fighters from AQIM’s Katibat al Murabitoon dead. Both AQIM and the French Ministry of Defence have yet to release statements confirming or denying these reports. However, Al Jazeera has reported that sources close to the group have confirmed the operations to the Qatari news site.
Turkish artillery is maintaining its support for the Islamic State (IS) forces, a leader of Russia’s Kurdish community said on Monday.
“More than 10 people, mostly women and children, have been killed over the past day. A group of up to 100 gunmen trespassed from Turkey into Syria near the city of Raqqah,” Farkhat Patiyev, chairman of the Council of the Federal National-Cultural Autonomy told TASS.
Special French Commando forces arrived in Benghazi, Libya, to support Brigadier General Khalifa Haftar and to provide support for military operations in the city, informed Libyan security sources confirmed.
In an exclusive statement to the Huffington Post Arabi, the sources explained that these forces are currently stationed in Benina Air Base, east of Benghazi, the most important military base for troops loyal to Haftar. Neither the number nor the size of the forces is known.
One Ukrainian soldier has been killed in clashes between Russia-backed separatists and government forces in the east of the country, Ukraine’s military says.
Ukrainian military spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk said on February 21 that the soldier had died in a sniper attack on the government-held town of Maryinka, a recent flashpoint located 20 kilometers southwest of Donetsk.
