The toll of an attack on a Bastille Day fireworks celebration in the southern French city of Nice rose on Friday to 84 dead and 202 injured, as the government identified the assailant as a 31-year-old native of Tunisia, extended a national state of emergency and absorbed the shock of a third major terrorist attack in 19 months.

“We will not give in to the terrorist threat,” Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Friday morning after a cabinet meeting led by President François Hollande. But Mr. Valls also offered a grim observation for his countrymen: “The times have changed, and France is going to have to live with terrorism.”

A total of 19 PKK terrorists died in separate clashes in eastern and southeastern Turkey, the country’s military said on Saturday.

The Turkish General Staff issued a statement saying 17 “separatist terrorist organisation members” were killed in a Friday clash with security forces in the Semdinli district of Hakkari province.

At least 36 people were killed, 147 injured Tuesday in a triple suicide bombing and gun attack at Istanbul’s main Atatürk airport, in the latest deadly strike to rock Turkey’s most-populated city.

The assessments show that 3 suicide bombers carried out the attacks in 3 different spots at the airport, Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin said in a statement released after the attack.

The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 36 times in the past 24 hours, including 17 times in the Mariupol sector, 15 times in the Donetsk sector and four times in the Luhansk sector, according to the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) Headquarters.

“In the Mariupol sector, Ukrainian strongholds near Maryinka, Novotroitske and Hranitne were attacked with small arms, and near Maryinka also with BMP weapons. At dusk, militants stepped up their attacks, which continued till midnight, firing at Ukrainian positions near Starohnativka and Taramchuk with machine guns and grenade launchers. Additionally, they used mortars of various calibers to attack near Vodiane, Talakivka and Chermalyk,” a statement reads.

A Kurdish militant group has claimed responsibility for a car-bomb attack in Istanbul this week that killed 11 people and wounded 36.

In a statement posted online Friday, the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons also warned tourists that Turkey was no longer secure for them.
