The Ukrainian military over the past 24 hours ten times shelled positions of the people’s militia in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), the republic’s defense ministry told the LuganskInformCenter on Sunday.
The ministry said “the Kalinovo settlement was shelled seven times.” Besides, the Ukrainian military shelled Kalinovka, Logvinovo and Smeloye.
Ukraine said on Tuesday seven of its soldiers had been killed and 14 wounded in “very heated” fighting that marked the bloodiest clashes with pro-Russian separatists in two months.
The announcement - the highest daily death toll since Ukraine reported seven of its soldiers dying on May 24 - follows a flurry of talks between world leaders and Moscow on halting the 26-month war.
The Islamic State (Isis) group claimed responsibility for the truck attack that killed 84 people in Nice on France’s national holiday, a news service affiliated with the jihadists said Saturday.
Amaq quoted an Isis security source as saying one of its “soldiers” carried out Thursday’s carnage “in response to calls to target nations of coalition states that are fighting (Isis)”.
Turkish Prime Minister said that 2,839 soldiers and officers implicated in an overnight coup attempt have been arrested. At least 265 people have been killed, including 104 pro-coup participants, while 1,440 people were injured in military action in Istanbul and Ankara.
According to Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, those arrested included ordinary soldiers and high-ranking officers. He added that about 20 of those who planned the overnight coup were killed and 30 more were wounded.
Turkey’s military has said that it has “fully seized control” of running the country in a bid to protect democratic order and to maintain human rights, as state television announced that the military had declared martial law and a curfew.
The military’s claim of control over the country was made in a statement carried by the Dogan News Agency and Turkish television broadcasts late on July 15.
The statement said all of Turkey’s existing foreign relations would be maintained and that the rule of law would be a top priority.
