MIA correspondent in Kumanovo informs that a spate of detonations and intensified machine gun fire is heard from a south-western part of the city where Macedonian police and an armed group were locked in fighting since early Saturday morning.
The intensified fighting follows the arrival of police reinforcements. Local citizens in the ethnically mixed part of the city, that has Macedonians, Albanians and Serbs living side by side, are evacuating, some by foot and other by police vehicles.
Russian-backed militants have stepped up attacks on Ukrainian positions throughout the combat zone in eastern Ukraine, according to military officials, who said the heaviest shelling was reported early on April 27 near Mariupol.
Serhiy Danylenko, military spokesman: “From from 18:00 Kyiv time on Sunday to midnight on Monday, pro-Russian militants shelled the positions of Ukrainian troops 23 times, the In Donetsk region, militants fired from 120mm-caliber mortars on the ATO forces near the village of Pisky three times and near the town of Avdiyivka twice. The enemy also used 122mm-caliber artillery systems to attack the positions near Avdiyivka twice.”
The leader of the Imarat Kavkaz terrorist organization and two other militant warlords have been killed in a special operation in Russia’s North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee said Monday.
Following an anti-terrorism operation that began Sunday in Dagestan’s Buinaksk, at least three bodies were recovered Monday.
Six Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in two separate incidents in the east of the country, government officials say.
Four died after their vehicle was reportedly fired on by pro-Russian separatists in Schastye, close to the separatist stronghold of Lugansk.
Security forces have shot two assailants during an attack on the police headquarters in Istanbul in which two policemen were injured, Doğan News Agency reported on April 1.
The assailants opened fire on police stationed at the entrance of the building in Istanbul’s Fatih district with long-barreled weapons, the report said.
