Burma-Myanmar: Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) rebels recapture Myanmar–Thai border town of Mawdaung after 35 years

The Karen National Union (KNU)’s armed wing and allies on Friday recaptured the Myanmar–Thai border town of Mawdaung in Tanintharyi Region after a hiatus of 35 years, according to resistance fighters.

The hill town is located at the Singkhon Pass border where Thailand’s Prachuap Khiri Khan Province is at its thinnest. It served as the headquarters of the KNU’s Myeik District until the junta occupied it in 1990.

Malesia: Southeast Asian leaders sign ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia

President Donald Trump on Sunday co-signed a ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, alongside leaders from Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia, during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Kuala Lumpur.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim joined Trump for the signing ceremony, which formalized a deal aimed at preventing further conflict along the disputed border between Thailand and Cambodia.

Burma-Myanmar: Myanmar junta recaptures Hsipaw town from Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) on China trade route

Myanmar’s ruling junta said Saturday that it had recaptured a town on a trade highway to China from an ethnic armed group in the country’s war-wracked north.

Following a 16-day operation, “on 16 October, Tatmadaw reoccupied Hsipaw completely,” the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper said, referring to the military by its Burmese name.

Pakistan and Afghanistan reach 48-hour truce after Islamabad strikes Kabul

Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban administration agreed to a 48-hour cease-fire starting at 6:00 p.m. local time Wednesday, Islamabad announced, following the outbreak of renewed fighting between the neighbors.

Both Pakistan and Afghanistan will make sincere efforts, through dialogue, to find a positive solution to the complex yet resolvable issue, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Dozens killed in clash on border between Afghanistan and Pakistan

Officials in Afghanistan claimed on Sunday to have killed 58 Pakistani soldiers during clashes overnight at the border between the two countries. Pakistan says it killed 200 Afghan Taliban soldiers and allies, Reuters reported.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Afghan troops captured 25 army posts from Pakistan, wounding 30 soldiers in what the Defense Ministry called “retaliatory and successful operations.”
