Sudan’s main southern rebel group has regained full control of its stronghold of Kauda, South Kordofan, following two days of fighting aimed at putting down an internal uprising, local sources said on Thursday.
The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, launched an offensive on Monday to quell a mutiny by fighters from the local Otoro clan in South Kordofan’s Heiban County.

Clashes between Iran-backed Houthi rebels and Yemeni government forces continued overnight Thursday, raising fresh concerns that Yemen’s long-running civil war could intensify. The renewed violence comes as conflict spreads across the Middle East and could create another dangerous front in the region.
At least one Yemeni government soldier was killed and another was critically wounded during clashes with Houthi fighters in the mountainous province of Taiz, according to Yemeni military officials who spoke to The Associated Press. The fighting was part of a series of recent Houthi attacks on government-held areas. The Yemeni military said dozens of government troops have been killed in attacks since last week.

Russia attacked Ukrainian cities with missiles, drones and glide bombs Tuesday, killing at least 10 civilians, officials said, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Moscow is getting new military help from North Korea for its more than 4-year-old invasion.
Zelenskyy said Russian forces used ballistic missiles supplied by North Korea in an overnight attack on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, where officials said seven people were killed and 24 wounded.

Fighting has broken out in western Tigray, in one of the most serious breaches yet of the three-year-old peace deal between Ethiopia’s federal government and fighters in the northern region.
Tigray’s regional government said in a statement from Mekelle, the Tigrayan capital, that federal forces opened the assault at dawn on Saturday, advancing from the direction of Shererina, near the Sudanese border.
