The conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has entered a new phase with the use of drones and heavy artillery in military operations against M23 rebels and allied groups, raising concerns over the future of regional peace efforts.
The Congo River Alliance (CRA), linked to M23, accused the Congolese government and Burundian forces of deploying “kamikaze drones” in South Kivu to strike areas near Uvira and surrounding villages.

Ukrainian forces have strengthened the battlefield in the region of eastern Ukraine where the Russian army made a surprise breakthrough this week and broke through Ukrainian defenses, Reuters reported, citing the regional governor of Donetsk region, BTA reports.
Ukraine said small groups of Russian infantry had advanced about 10 km (6 miles) toward its main defense line, near the town of Dobropilya, raising fears of a larger breakthrough that would further endanger key cities.

Israel’s security cabinet has approved a plan proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the military to “take control” of Gaza City, his office said in a statement Friday.
Under the plan to “defeat” Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army “will prepare to take control of Gaza City while distributing humanitarian assistance to the civilian population outside combat zones”, the statement said.

Discord between two rebel groups in a rebel-controlled town in Chin state of western Myanmar has turned into fierce fighting, forcing thousands of residents, including Christians, to flee their homes.
Clashes between the Mara Defense Force (MDF) and Chinland Defense Force–Mara (CDF-Mara) intensified in Thantlang township since Aug. 3, local sources confirmed.

Six soldiers have been killed in a border skirmish between South Sudan and Uganda.
The Ugandan government claimed that South Sudanese soldiers were in Ugandan territory and refused to leave,
leading to the firefight. Reports indicate that five South Sudanese were killed, with one Ugandan also dying.
