Syria: At least 50 killed including 13 children in clashes in Houla town

At least 50 people, including 13 children, have been killed after Syrian forces attacked the town of Houla in Homs province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and activists said.

Activists said clashes erupted in the town when Syrian forces opened fire on a protest against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad and killed one protester.

Yemen: Ansar al-Sharia claims bombing that killed almost 100 soldiers and wounding about 300 in the capital

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) stepped up its war against the Yemeni forces when it carried out a suicide bombing attack on a military parade in the capital Sana’a on Monday , killing almost 100 and wounding about 300 others.

Al-Qaeda affiliated Ansar al-Sharia group issued a statement saying claiming the responsibility for the attack and threatening for more if the Yemeni army does not halt an operation against the terrorist group in the south of the country.

Yemen: Clashes between al-Qaeda militants and soldiers in Jaar city

At least 22 al-Qaeda-linked militants and 12 Yemeni soldiers were killed in clashes and air strikes overnight during a U.S.-backed offensive against insurgents in the south of the country, officials said on Saturday.

Fighting erupted late on Friday and carried on into Saturday on the outskirts of the southern city of Jaar, held by Islamist militants who have stepped up their campaign during months of political turmoil.

Syria: Violent clashes between army and rebels in capital Damascus

Fierce fighting between regime troops and armed rebels rocked parts of the Syrian capital Damascus overnight, a monitoring group said on Sunday.

“Violent clashes broke out between rebel fighters and regime troops at a checkpoint in Kafr Sousa district,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in a statement.

There were no immediate details on casualties, the Britain-based watchdog added.

Yemen: At least 42 killed in offensive on islamist insurgents of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP)

At least 42 people including 30 Islamist militants were killed in Yemen on Monday night and Tuesday, officials and residents said, as the government pressed ahead with a new US-backed offensive against insurgents in the south.

The Islamist rebellion is of serious concern to the United States and to Yemen’s much bigger neighbour Saudi Arabia, which both fear that instability could give al Qaeda’s Arabian wing, already active in Yemen, a bigger foothold near oil shipping routes through the Red Sea.
