Kurdish forces pressed their biggest offensive against the ISIS group so far on Friday, buoyed by US reports that militant supremo Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi’s top aide in Iraq has been killed.
Kurdish peshmerga forces were securing the surroundings of Mount Sinjar after breaking a months-old militant siege of the northwestern region while fighting was also reported near the city of Tall Afar further east.
Two car bombs exploded south of the Yemeni capital city of Sanaa on Tuesday, hitting a school bus traveling near a Shia gathering and killing 25 people including at least 15 primary school students, a Shia group said.
The Shia rebel fighters, known as Houthis, blamed Al-Qaeda for the attack in the Radaa area of Baydah province, calling it “the ugliest crime against childhood.” The group said the school bus was carrying female primary school students.
At least 26 rebel fighters were killed Sunday by the Syrian troops in the northern province of Aleppo, a monitoring group said.
The killed rebels were from an array of jihadi groups, mainly the Al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, Xinhua quoted the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as saying.
Yemeni troops on Saturday shot dead five Al-Qaeda suspects disguised as women who fired at a soldier during a checkpoint inspection of their Saudi-bound bus, officials said.
Another suspect was wounded along with the driver in the shooting at Harad, a town 15 km from the Saudi border, the officials said, adding two of those killed were Saudis.
The YPG (People’s Defense Units) Press Centre has released a written statement providing information about the offensives against the ISIS groups in Kobanê, Serêkaniyê and Jazaa.
YPG announced that the attacks by the ISIS gangs aiming the occupation of Kobanê continued on the 88th day.
