A group of about 50 Syrian Christian women have left their homes, jobs, and children to form a new battalion to fight the encroaching ISIS terrorists.
The battalion is called the Female Protection Forces of the Land Between the Two Rivers - referring to the Tigris and the Euphrates.
Israeli has attacked targets in southern Lebanon with artillery fire and flown warplanes over the capital Beirut in retaliation for three rockets being fired into northern Israel from Lebanese territory.
The exchange came after an Israeli air strike killed a Lebanese Hezbollah operative in the Syrian capital Damascus on Saturday.
Negotiators taking part in Yemen peace talks in Switzerland agreed Saturday to create a “neutral” committee to monitor the country’s crumbling ceasefire even as at least 68 people were killed on the ground, a source close to the talks said.
“There is an understanding over forming a neutral military committee tasked with monitoring the ceasefire,” a source close to President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi’s government delegation said.
Islamic State (IS) militants have assaulted the Bashiq military camp in north east of Mosul where Turkish military advisors are training Iraqi Sunni forces.
On Wednesday December 16th, heavy clashes took place between IS insurgents and Sunni National Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Watani) in Bashiq. Turkish troops, present at the area to protect Turkish military advisors, took part in the fighting to repel the jihadists.
The Saudi government said the multi-national coalition includes Turkey, Pakistan, Nigeria, Qatar, Egypt, Morocco, Yemen, and Jordan, but other details were not immediately disclosed. Saudi Defense Minister Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud said the alliance will not just confront the Islamic State (ISIS) group, but “any terrorist group in front of us.”
