Syrian rebels have seized control of the Syrian side of a major border crossing with Iraq from the Islamic State group, activists said Saturday.

The Local Coordination Committees said U.S.-backed fighters from the Free Syrian Army’s Southern Front killed one Islamic State fighter and wounded several others in the process of taking the Tanaf border crossing late Friday.

Fighters from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) have clashed with the Takfiri Daesh terrorists near the Turkish border over the weekend, leaving a total of 206 people dead, among them civilians.

YPG official Redur Xelil said on Wednesday that 43 of the group’s members lost their lives during the battle, which began on Saturday and ended on Monday, in the Syrian town of Tal Abyad.

The Yemeni army and popular forces have changed their military tactics in their offensives against the Saudi forces in Ta’iz, Ma’rib and al-Jawf provinces which resulted in more military gains for them and inflicted heavy losses on them, FNA dispatches said.

The Yemeni forces pounded Saudi Arabia’s Sahn al-Jen military base in Ma’rib province, killing and injuring scores of Saudi forces.

Thousands of Iraqi security personnel launched an operation today aimed at retaking areas north of Baghdad from the Islamic State jihadist group, officials said.

Counter-terrorism forces, soldiers, police and allied paramilitaries are taking part in the operation, which is backed by artillery and both Iraqi and US-led coalition aircraft, the Joint Operations Command announced.

Turkish artillery is maintaining its support for the Islamic State (IS) forces, a leader of Russia’s Kurdish community said on Monday.

“More than 10 people, mostly women and children, have been killed over the past day. A group of up to 100 gunmen trespassed from Turkey into Syria near the city of Raqqah,” Farkhat Patiyev, chairman of the Council of the Federal National-Cultural Autonomy told TASS.
