Italy will retreat half of its 1,500 troop contingent in Iraq and send them to Niger to take part in a new international military mission, Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti said Sunday in an interview.

The military operation against the Houthi militia is escalating in the Shabwa governorate amid significant progress by the national army and popular resistance, especially in the Asilan and Bihan districts.
The commander of Yemeni forces in Bihan told al-Hadath reporter on Friday that most of Bihan was liberated except for some small villages, as the Yemeni army was keen to preserve the lives of civilians.

At least 35 people were killed and 20 others were missing following Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on a military police facility in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa on Wednesday, a senior Houthi defense ministry official has told CNN.
The facility held hundreds of prisoners, according to officials at the rebel-held office of national security. They said they expected the death toll to rise, and added that they believed many of the dead remained under the rubble.

Clashes broke out between Iraqi and Kurdish troops in the disputed region between Erbil and Baghdad, Kurdish media reported on Monday.
Iraqi army and al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) accessed Fekaka village, in Qurret Tabah region, for the first time since 2014, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan media channels said.

The Daesh group has seized territory in Syria’s Idlib province after clashes with rival militants, a monitor said Friday.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Daesh had captured the village of Bashkun after clashes with Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), a force dominated by a former Al-Qaeda affiliate.
