Syria: Kurdish YPG militia hit back at Turkish forces on strategic Afrin mountain

Renewed clashes erupted on a strategic Syrian hilltop yesterday as Kurdish militia fighters tried to retake it from Turkish troops.

Turkish military officials cancelled a government-organized press tour to Bursayah Hill, separating the Kurdish-held enclave of Afrin from the Turkish-controlled town of Azaz, due to “security concerns.”

Yemen: Yemeni forces clash with separatists in Aden, 8 killed

Yemeni government forces clashed with separatists in the southern port city of Aden on Sunday in fighting that left at least eight people dead.

The country’s internationally recognized government considered the separatists’ assault an attempted “coup” backed by onetime ally the United Arab Emirates.

Syria: People’s Protection Units (YPG) claims capturing 16 Turkish soldiers

The Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) have claimed that 16 Turkish troops have been captured since the beginning of fierce military clashes between the sides last Saturday.

A YPG spokesperson cited by Sputnik, also said “the militiamen lost four people”.

Iraq: 11 Islamic State (IS) militants killed in military operation in Kirkuk

Eleven Islamic State (IS) militants were killed Monday during an operation in Hawijah area in the western part of Iraq’s Kirkuk province, a local police source told Xinhua.

A joint force from local police and paramilitary tribal fighters carried out a search campaign looking for IS militants in several villages in the rugged area of Zab in west of the town of Hawijah, which located some 230 km north of Baghdad, the source said on condition of anonymity.

Turkey: Turkish troops shell Afrin in Syria to oust US-backed Kurdish militia

Turkey on Friday started fresh shelling of the Syrian town of Afrin in a move to oust a US-backed Kurdish militia that Ankara considers “terrorists” and vowed to press on with a full-scale operation against them.

The Turkish government has repeatedly warned it will strike Syrian towns controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia, including Afrin, after the US said it was training a 30,000-strong border force there.
