Indonesia: A toddler and a teen killed in gunfight between security forces and independentist rebels in Papua

A toddler and teenager were among three people killed in a gunfight between security forces and independence-seeking rebels in Indonesia’s restive Papua region, the military said on Thursday (Sep 19).

The deadly clash comes after mass demonstrations and violence gripped Papua - on the western half of New Guinea island - fuelled by anger over racism and fresh calls for self-rule in Indonesia’s easternmost territory.

Afghanistan: 22 killed and 38 wounded in Kabul suicide bombing claimed by taliban

Officials at Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) confirmed that the explosion near Massoud Square on Tuesday was caused by a suicide attacker, and that it detonated close to one of the Ministry of Defense’s buildings in Police District 9 (PD9) in the city of Kabul.

According to a Ministry of Interior statement, at least 22 civilians were killed and 38 others were wounded in the blast, including women and children.

Tajikistan: Clashes in Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border leave 1 dead and 19 wounded

A shoot-out on a disputed section of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in the Ferghana Valley has left at least one border guard dead and 19 other people wounded, officials from both countries say.

Both sides blamed each other for starting the September 16 shooting in Kyrgyzstan’s Leylek district and the Bobojon Ghafurov district of Tajikistan.

Burma-Myanmar: 3 members of Northern Alliance declare ceasefire

Less than a month after carrying out a series of attacks on the Burma Army that triggered a major escalation of the conflict in northern Shan State, three members of the Northern Alliance have declared a month-long unilateral ceasefire in the region.

The three ethnic armed groups made the declaration on Monday, saying that the move was intended to pave the way for “practical and effective reconciliatory talks for lasting peace in the Union of Myanmar.”

Philippines: 2 New People’s Army (NPA) leftist rebels killed in clashes with security forces in Agusan del Sur

Two leftist rebels have been killed in clashes between government security forces and New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Agusan del Sur province in the southern Philippines, the Philippine military said on Monday.

The military in a report said that Philippine security forces and the rebels clashed on Sunday in a village in Loreto town, forcing the evacuation of 220 families.
